Alex Vann, Pete Judge and Paul Bradley are Three Cane Whale, a multi-instrumental acoustic trio who hail from Bristol. Their debut album, recorded live in an 18th century Bristol church, was chosen by Cerys Matthews as one of her 'Top Five modern folk albums' (Sunday Telegraph). They play their own brand of folk in Hall Two at Kings Place for one night only on Friday 8th March 2013. Alex plays mandolin, bowed psaltery, music box and something called a 'zither', Pete is a dab hand on the trumpet, harmonium, lyre, glockenspiel and dulcitone, while Paul plays acoustic guitar and miniature harp. Together they create "elegant and atmospheric" music, so says The Guardian.
About Kings Place
Just 150 metres from King's Cross and St Pancras stations and with a waterside setting, the Dixon-Jones designed Kings Place combines the offices of The Guardian newspaper with a concert hall and two art galleries. As you'd expect from the architects behind the recent improvements to the Royal Opera House and National Portrait Gallery it's a well designed complex of curvaceous surfaces and appealing public spaces.
