Tim Robbins & The Rogues Gallery Band

Philanthropist, political activist, anti-globalisation spokesman, Huffington Post blogger - not to mention Oscar-winning actor, screenwriter, and director - Tim Robbins can now add another arrow to his quiver: that of successful musician. The lofty 51-year-old man-for-all-seasons, best known for his role as prisoner Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption, stoops into the Union Chapel with his backing group The Rogues Gallery Band as part of their first ever European tour. A long-awaited debut album of "raggle-taggle gypsy Americana", produced by maverick genius Hal Willner, is set for release three days before this intriguing concert. The word on the street is that the 6'5" Robbins is indeed a highly gifted singer-songwriter in the American narrative tradition, the actor having clearly learned a thing or two from his folk-singing father. The Rogues Gallery is made up of a host of world class musicians, including Kate St. John, Leo Abrahams, David Coulter, Roger Eno, Rory McFarlane, Andrew Newmark and Dudley Phillips. Let's just hope Robbins shows more promise on the stage than his Hollywood colleagues Keanu Reeves, Russell Crowe and Juliette Lewis.
