Few TV character skits have made us here at LondonTown.com laugh more than Tom Allen's recent Dictionary Corner, in which the delightfully camp comedian, wearing a smoking jacket and crossing his legs upon a red velvet throne, explains the meaning of new street expressions with a hilariously refined accent so out of sync with the celebrity-fuelled chav vulgarity of the subject matter. Yes, it owed a lot to Roger's Profanisaurus in Viz - but Allen's writing and wry delivery was an indicator of this young comic's huge talent. Now the gay thespian-cum-comedian heads to the Soho Theatre for a three-night turn of his new show, Women. Droll, intelligent and effortlessly laconic, Allen "is one of the more adorable stand-ups" on the circuit, "his outfit as dapper as his patter, he has something of Graham Norton about him, but with a less manic, more Coward-esque twist" (The Telegraph). Women is an engaging, hour-long tribute to all the ladies he has ever loved ("but not in that way") which brims with funny anecdotes and charm. Listening to his voice is a true pleasure: Allen is a story-teller extraordinaire - and very funny to boot.About Soho Theatre
The Soho Theatre Company was formed in 1969 by Verity Bargate and Fred Proud, but it didn't have a permanent home until 2000, when its current Dean Street location opened. This modern space was the first theatre to be built with National Lottery money. More about Soho Theatre
