Trelawny of the Wells English film director Joe Wright, known for Pride and Prejudice, Atonement and Hanna, will make his theatre directing debut this year as he directs Arthur Wing Pinero's ' Trelawny of the Wells ' at the Donmar Warehouse . Josie Rourke, the Donmar's artistic director as of 2012, describes the play as Pinero's love letter to theatre and states that "it feels very apt that having grown up in a theatre, Joe should be directing Trelawny of the Wells". The play is an 1898 comic piece that tells the story of Rosie Trelawny, the shining star of a theatre company who gives it all up for love. However, once she is married, she is left with the stark reality of a life away from her beloved melodramas and recapturing her vivacious persona becomes somewhat of a challenge.

About The Donmar Warehouse

Housed in an impressive red-brick industrial building - at various times a brewery, a banana warehouse and a film studio - this tiny repertory theatre is one of the great success stories of the 1990s. Created as a studio space for the RSC in 1977, it became a shabby but popular fringe theatre in the 1980s, a testing ground for producers with big ideas but little money.
