Roger Hiorns, Enrico David, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright are the four artists in the running for the Turner Prize 2009. Set up in 1984, the Tate's Turner Prize has been courting controversy ever since. The most notorious prize in the world of contemporary art, it carries a large cash prize and instant fame for the winner who must be a British artist under fifty. The prize is awarded for a work completed within the year which include Roger Hiorns' 'Seizure' for which he transformed a derelict South London flat into a magical room of evolving blue crystals. Also in the running are Enrico David's 'How Do You Love Dzzzzt By Mammy?'; Lucy Skaer for her solo exhibition at the Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh and A Boat Used as a Vessel at the Kunsthalle Basel; and Richard Wright's wall paintings - a response to the architecture in which they are created. This year's winner will be chosen by Mariella Frostrup, Charles Esche, Jonathan Jones and Andrea Schlieker, and announced on 7th December. Despite the uproar from stuffier elements in the tabloids, this show is always great fun. A must for lovers of contemporary art.About Tate Britain
