Turner and the Sea
Nearby

In November 2013 the National Maritime Museum will stage the first large-scale exhibition to examine JMW Turner's lifelong pre-occupation with the sea. The Turner and the Sea display in the museum's exhibition space in the Sammy Ofer wing features about sixty oil paintings, approximately half by Turner and the same number of watercolours. Described by the director of the museum as, "the most ambitious reappraisal of the subject in modern times", the exhibition is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see works brought together from collections across the world, including iconic works spanning the artist's whole career.
About National Maritime Museum
Located in the heart of Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum has a monumental mission: to showcase mankind's association with the sea. The collection dates back to 1823 when a National Gallery of Naval Art was established, and the museum is housed in an elegant building which used to be an asylum. More about National Maritime Museum
