Two Last Nights! Show Business in Georgian BritainThe Foundling Museum teaches Londoners everything they need to know about 18th and 19th century theatre with its new exhibition, Two Last Nights! Show Business in Georgian Britain. The museum-wide, interactive exhibition provides a how-to-guide to going to a show in 18th and 19th century England, delving into the mechanics of both theatre and concerts. More than 100 objects will reveal the surprising number of similarities between attending theatre shows and festivals then and now, including advertising, ticket sales, audience behaviour and dress code. Visitors will be able to go behind the scenes, exploring how what's involved in the roles of theatre managers, set designers and scenery painters, as well as refreshment sellers and ticket collectors. A 1785 set model from the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden and an original 18th-century supper box painting, Devil to Pay, by Francis Hayman will be among the items on display.

About The Foundling Museum

The Foundling Museum is one of London's real hidden treasures. Originally established in 1739 as a hospital which looked after abandoned children, the museum now tells their story. Using oral testimony, original artefacts and photographs, their history is explored and compared to the lives of contemporary children. More about The Foundling Museum
