Photographs, documents and artefacts exploring the personal accounts of the people who worked at the Cabinet War Rooms during the Second World War are revealed in Undercover: Life in Churchill's Bunker. This exhibition, which marks the seventieth anniversary of the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms, uses first-hand accounts, images and documents to bring the working conditions of Churchill's underground office to life. Set up the week before the outbreak of the Second World War was declared in August 1939 The Cabinet War Rooms were a shelter for the heart of government and military command. During the next six years, hundreds of men and women spent thousands of hours working - and sleeping - here. Personal accounts by former army sergeant George Rance, RAF officer William Dickson, personal secretary Elizabeth Layton, and shorthand typist Ilene Hutchinson are included in this anniversary exhibition.About Churchill War Rooms
Winston Churchill directed the troops during World War II from a small warren of underground rooms, which are now open to the public. Visitors to the Cabinet War Rooms can see the area just as it would have been during Churchill's time. More about Churchill War Rooms
