This is a car boot sale with a difference - instead of second hand goods all the wares sold out of the back of the motors are art. The feel at the Art Car Boot Fair is one of a genuine car boot sale with plenty of good humoured bartering and banter. Some of the 'art' may even look as though it had come from someone's attic but don't be fooled, junk it certainly isn't. Some well-known artists have taken part including Sarah Lucas, Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Sir Peter Blake. This year also sees the introduction of The Handbag Disco a grown ups version of pass the parcel, dancers simply groove on the floor around handbags and when the music stops grab one. Bags include designer handbags and celebrity bags donated by the likes of Alesha Dixon, Daisy Lowe and Sophie Dahl. The atmosphere is super friendly with kiddies running about, you'll feel like you've gatecrashed a private party crossed with a street festival. Go, pick up a burger and Pimms, drift around the car boots and watch the spectacle - oh and don't forget to bargain for some modern British art at a fraction of the gallery price.About Brick Lane
London's own "Curry Mile", Brick Lane is home to so much more than first-rate spiced food, it also plays host to Jewish bagel shops, Indian sari silks and artists' studios - Gilbert and George and Tracey Emin are famously proud residents of the neighbouring streets. More about Brick Lane
