Even before the credit crunch, vintage fashion was enjoying a revival. And the monthly Vintage Fashion Fair at Cecil Sharp House in North London offers fashion - and finance - conscious folk a great selection of clothes and accessories to rummage through. The first fair, held at the beginning of March 2009, attracted 600 visitors and the variety of stylish gowns, jewellery, textiles and accessories is sure to keep them coming back for more. The 28 stalls even include one specialising in menswear. Organiser Marilyn Tye has a history of running events like this as she previously arranged similar fashion fairs at Earls Court Exhibition Centre. Sophisticated, fashionable and ever-so-slightly spend thrift, vintage has a whimsical charm and this stylish fair, accompanied by a coffee shop and 1930s and 1940s piano music, promises to further our enthusiasm for the old school style. Whether its a skin-tight pair of 70s drainpipes or a 50s style prom dress, the fair is crammed with a raft of seriously retro gear. Cecil Sharp House, the purpose-built home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society, is an impressive 1930's listed building with three halls and various rooms which can also be hired for private functions.
