- Visitor Information
Apsley House is marking the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo with a weekend of military displays, family activities and an opportunity to meet the redcoats. No 1 London (as Apsley House is also known) is an apt location to mark the historic battle of June 1815, sitting as it does right next to Wellington Arch, which was built in honour of the Duke who famously defeated Napoleon so ending the French emperor's rule. At this family event you can meet Captain Abs, who recalls the fascinating story of the great battle using vegetables as props! There's also the chance to watch the redcoats on parade, practising their drills, as Wellington's army would have done in the 19th century. About Apsley House
Originally the London residence of the first Duke of Wellington, Apsley House was designed and built by Robert Adam between 1771 and 1778 and retains some of the finest Regency interiors around. The house formed the elegant backdrop to a host of glittering banquets which mirrored the rise in status of the Duke. More about Apsley House
