When Britain Went Pop! British Pop Art: The Early YearsThis comprehensive exhibition of British Pop Art, which opens the brand new Christie's Mayfair gallery, aims to show how Pop Art began in Britain and how British artists like Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, David Hockney, Allen Jones and Patrick Caulfield irrevocably shifted the boundaries between popular culture and fine art, leaving a legacy both in Britain and abroad. Highlights of When Britain Went Pop! are works from the 1961 'Young Contemporaries' exhibition which firmly established the Pop movement on the UK art scene, including one of the first works David Hockney ever sold which still has its £12 price tag on the back. And if you enjoy this you should also see the Barbican's Pop Art Design (22 October 2013 - 9 February 2014), a comprehensive survey of the Pop Art movement bringing together around 200 works by over 70 artists and designers.

About Christie's Mayfair

This Bond Street art gallery space for the London branch of Christie's auction house represents something of a first for an auction house. Occupying 11,500 sq ft of space over three floors, it will stage three or four museum-quality curated exhibitions each year. More about Christie's Mayfair
