White Mischief, that neo-Victorian moveable feast of costume, dance, music and spectacle, celebrates its third birthday with a night of performance, pageantry and wild abandon at Scala. The crumbling rooms of the art deco-style former cinema play host to DJs, dancing, live music, craft stalls and bizarre installations in a night dedicated to "The Great Exhibition" and the grand fairs of yesteryear. Stand out performers include White Mischief curators, the tribal pop group Tough Love; an electrocuting scientist called Voltini; Bruce Airhead, a tall man who climbs inside a balloon; angle-grinding, spark-flying dancer Keda Breeze; and Steampunk burlesque acts Beau Burlington and Meg La Mania. Blending inspiration from Edwardian literature and the industrial and romantic science fiction from the Jules Verne era, White Mischief's parties are "more fun in one night than some venues can manage in a whole year" (The Guardian). Music comes from chap-hop luminaries MC Elemental and Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer (whose topics cover tea on the lawn, cricket, Surrey and good manners) as well as the lederhosen-loving Oompah Brass Band, plus an array of genres covering antique beat, classical, vintage jazz, swing and rock n roll. Dressing up is encouraged but not compulsory - but the more you put in, the more you'll get out of this wacky night of retro-futuristic alternate-history. A pre-party takes place at Proud Cabaret the day before on Friday 26th March. For more information go to www.whitemischief.info. Competition: We have a pair of tickets to give away to the White Mischief 3rd Birthday Extravaganza on 27th March. To be in with a chance of winning simply tell us where the party is being held. Send your answer to competitions@londontown.com with "White Mischief" in the subject line by midday on Monday 15th March. First out of the hat wins - good luck!
