Katie Leung, the actress who played Cho Chang (Harry's first kiss) in the Harry Potter films, takes the lead role in the first theatrical adaptation of Wild Swans. The play, adapted from Jung Chang's best-selling book by Alexandra Wood, will premiere at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachussetts, before opening at London's Young Vic in April. It's part of World Stages London - a collaboration between 8 London venues and 12 UK and international co-producers - which takes place throughout May 2012. Wild Swans is a collaboration between the Young Vic, American Repertory Theater and Actors Touring Company and features a creative team of British and American talent. Wild Swans is the best-selling non-fiction book in British publishing history - with 13 million copies sold in 36 languages - and this first stage adaptation will be hotly anticipated by readers who want to re-live the true story of three female generations of Chang's family on stage. Author Jung Chang is confident the production is in "good hands" under the direction of Sacha Wares who once again partners with set designer Miriam Buether - the two worked together on Olivier Award-winning Sucker Punch at the Royal Court last year.

Knocked together out of breeze blocks for a minimal budget in 1970, Lawrence Olivier's experimental theatre was intended to last for five years, and provide an inspiration for the new generation of performers. But this was an experiment that worked and, years later, the Young Vic remains south London's premier venue for the contemporary, the shocking, the controversial, and the bizarre.
