Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year
THIS EVENT ENDED ON THE 3RD MARCH 2013

Some photographers wait for weeks in order to catch that one great action shot, some set up elaborate timing systems, others have simply seen an opportunity, grabbed a camera and produced a unique picture of the natural world. The annual Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum shows new perspectives on familiar creatures and quirky corners of nature. Animals, insects, plants and landscapes are captured brilliantly across a number of categories in what must be one of the most colourful and heart warming collections of images on display in the capital. The high profile competition is the most prestigious and successful event of its kind in the world (the pictures tour the globe once the London exhibition winds down in spring). It is open to amateur and professional photographers and each year a panel of wildlife and photography experts scrutinise around 30,000 entries from a global pool for their composition and originality. The photos on display are, by turns, touching, inspiring, educational and tragic, but all of them provide an insight into a magical natural world. This is a stunning exhibition. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 17th October 2012 and the exhibition opens to the public on 19th October.
