Tate Modern dedicates rooms to three iconic US photographers - William Eggleston (until 11th May 2014), Harry Callahan (until 31st May) and Robert Mapplethorpe (self-portraits, from 5th May). The William Eggleston display, part of Energy and Process at on Level 4 at Tate Modern, shows a selection of photographs by the Memphis-based artist looking at daily life in the southern states of America. Eggleston, a pioneer of colour photography, was recently honoured at the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards with an Outstanding Contribution award.

Located along the banks of the River Thames in the former Bankside Power Station, originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1947, the architect of Battersea Power Station, Tate Modern opened to great acclaim in 2000.
