Timed to tie in with International Women's Week and Women's History Month, Wisewords, held at different venues in the East End, is a celebration of international women writers from poets to comics. There's a huge variety of events, from a two-day Bookfest at The Women's Library to a debate on 'The Portrayal of Women in the UK Media' hosted by Amnesty International. On Monday 8th March it's time for tea at The International Women's Day Tea Party at TeaSmith in Spitalfields Market. There are serious issues addressed through events like Exiled Writers who host 'Worlds Apart: Mothers & Daughters' with poet Alev Adil, Fatima Hagi, Ziba Karbassi and lawyer and political activist Shereen Pandit at the Idea Store Whitechapel. But if it's laughs you're after head to The Old Truman Brewery's Vibe Bar on Wednesday 10th March for an open mic night organised by Apples & Snakes, experts in producing performance poetry, fronted by Liz Bentley ('A female Ivor Cutler' - The Scotsman), and featuring guest artists Lucy Leagrave and Deanna Rodger. Vibe Bar manages to be both chilled out and cutting edge. Located inside the Truman Brewery on trendy Brick Lane, you can come here to drink cocktails and lounge, or hang out in the courtyard and sample some BBQ.
