World Oceans Day Family FestivalThe National Maritime Museum is doing its bit to raise awareness of the planet's oceans this World Oceans Day with a special one-day family festival. Aiming to inspire people across the world to protect and restore our oceans, the day-long festival will feature a line-up of family friendly workshops and talks from artists and academics along with art installations and performances. Thought-provoking highlights include designer and creator Anna Kompaniets creating three headpieces out rubbish collected at the National Maritime Museum in order to highlight consumer waste issues; a pioneering new work by Evan Roth displayed alongside accompanying objects from NMM collections; and a No Time to Waste performance from Hector Dyer which takes the audience on a slow-moving journey of a turtle. There will also be kayak paddling training machines, a parade and engaging art workshops for all ages.

About National Maritime Museum

Located in the heart of Greenwich, the National Maritime Museum has a monumental mission: to showcase mankind's association with the sea. The collection dates back to 1823 when a National Gallery of Naval Art was established, and the museum is housed in an elegant building which used to be an asylum.
