A charming bookshop specialising in children's books, the Lion & Unicorn makes reading fun for kids. There's a real sense of community; they regularly run reader events and issue a quarterly newsletter appropriately called 'THE ROAR'. Founded in 1977, best-selling children's author Roald Dahl was the first guest of honour, present at the opening. Since then, authors including David McKee, Shirley Hughes, Jacqueline Wilson, Philip Pullman, Anthony Horowitz, Michael Morpurgo and Lauren Child have visited the bookshop to meet their fans. Situated in a picturesque lane close to Richmond Green, it's a pleasure to browse the well stocked range of books and audio tapes for children, from pint-sized board books for babies to teenage fiction. Widely and rightly recognised as a treasure trove for children's book lovers.
