This imposing building is the village of Carshalton’s ancient parish church. It commands a prominent position overlooking the ponds. There is no specific indication of how old it is although it was first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086.
Architecturally, the church is a real hotch-potch of extensions and alterations however it is still very striking. The tower and chancel are enchanting and date back to medieval times. Inside, the rather elaborate and ornate decorations are the work of Sir Ninian Cooper, the leading ecclesiastical designer in the 20th century.
If you are passing by, it is worth a quick look. The public are welcome to explore the church and attend its many services.
