Wanstead Flats stretches out from the Southern part of Epping Forest. A blend of rough grassland and immaculately mown areas, it is about as rural as it gets in East London. Don’t be alarmed if you see a long-horned cow amble past - they are known to graze in the area.
Kids can kick balls around on the football pitches, watch model plane enthusiasts reach for the limits or trot along the flats on a horse.
Incidentally, for those individuals partial to a summer evening tipple, The Golden Fleece pub encourages you to drink your pints out on the flats. We think this a more than civilised way to toast the long summer evenings.
