The world's largest collection of steam pumping engines.
If you’re into steam-powered stuff or simply have a penchant for the unusual and unique then this Victorian waterworks museum is more than worth a visit. Housed in a magnificent 19th century pumping station near the river at Kew, visitors can admire some of the largest beam engines of their kind in the world whilst also finding out about the history of water supply in London. Follow in the footsteps of Charles Dickens, who also visited the site, as you see the celebrated Cornish engines at work (select weekends only). The world's largest collection of steam pumping engines comes alive every weekend as the engines are set to work, powering a magnificent waterwheel and steam railway, which transports visitors around the site. Special events take place throughout the year.
Best for:
Steam engines, steam trains and waterwheels.
Did you know?
Many Victorian waterworks had their own railway. |
