A lovely Palladian villa set in 66 acres of riverside parkland, Marble Hill House was intended as an Arcadian retreat from 18th century London when it was first built. It's safe to say that it still provides a pretty glorious escape from the hustle and bustle of London. Overlooking the Thames between Richmond and Hampton Court, the park is a romantic fragment of a lost world. You can almost imagine fashionable Georgian society strolling through the grounds, picnicking on the grass or retiring for a little snooze under the shade of a tree. This is a great place for wandering and just losing yourself in the stunning surroundings.
