Having achieved almost cult status, this reasonably-priced, independent cinema in the heart of Leicester Square is not quite the true hidden gem it once was. The moment Quentin Tarantino admitted that his film Kill Bill was designed for the Prince Charles (pointing out that it was everything a cheap movie theatre should be) the cinema lost its obscurity, Having said that it's still the last thing you'd expect to find bang in the middle of the The West End, a stone's throw from the cheesy overpriced multiplexes. The Prince Charles is a proud, non-subsidised, independent cinema which for many years has shown only the best commercial, cult and art-house films to its army of fans at very reasonable prices. Constantly revising its programme and regularly showing more than 10 films a week on its single screen, there is inevitably something to taste every kind of film fan including lovers of audience sing-a-longs ('The Sound of Music', 'Rocky Horror Show' etc.). A glitzy, red auditorium with cosy lovers' chairs in the back two rows, provide echoes of the cinema'past; first as a theatre, later as a porn cinema. You might need to queue up for tickets but it's well worth a visit if you're in the centre of town.
