Built to join up the Grand Junction Canal with the Thames, Regent’s Canal was named after the Prince Regent (later King George IV) - a friend of architect John Nash, one of the directors of the canal company.
After years as a bustling commercial thoroughfare, trade ceased in the 1960s. The canal is now purely a source of leisure with its towpath open to the public and boat trips available – especially between Camden and West London’s gloriously scenic Little Venice.
