The church of St John's was built in 1824 to celebrate victory in the Napoleonic wars. In 1940, the church was firebombed, destroying much of the interior. A restored St John's Waterloo reopened in 1951 to serve as the parish church of the Festival of Britain and further restoration work has been done since. There are frequently free lunchtime concerts and events organised in collaboration with neighbouring arts venues including the Young Vic. The Southbank Sinfonia perform weekly Rush Hour Concerts at the church at 6pm on Thursdays.St John's Church, Waterloo images
