Tower Pier, located next to the Tower of London, is a popular stop-off point for any tourist wishing to see the Tower and explore the City of London. The current pier replaced the original which opened in 1926 and has been highlighted for further work with an extension planned by 2011, in time for the 2012 Olympics. Leisure cruise and riverbus services run from Tower Pier to Westminster, Greenwich, the O2 Arena and Woolwich Arsenal. Part of the pier is used as a terminal for cruise ships.
