It was at these premises, taking over from Tom's Coffee House in 1706, that the famous R. Twinings tea company was founded by Thomas Twining. This original tea shop also houses a small museum showing the history of Twinings alongside the retail sales. It is the oldest shop in the City of Westminster, trading on the same site with the same family and the same product, tea and coffee.
