Valence House, along with its herb garden and moat, is the local history museum for the parishes and boroughs of Barking and Dagenham. The collection is housed in a timber-framed manor house begun in the 15th century. Of particular interest are a fine set of 17th century and 18th century portraits of the Fanshawe family and a period room of the same date.
