Wimbledon Art Studios was established in early 1993, it was primarily a working paper warehouse and started with a few artists studios alongside the paper business. The industrial estate providing an urban backdrop to the studios. Evolving from accommodating about 6 artists, there are now over 100 studios with over 120 artists. The beauty for artists is that the studios in the warehouse benefit from having plenty of natural light from the vast glass roof upstairs. Wimbledon Art Studios is a working art community with many of London's established artists brushing shoulders with emerging talent fresh from art college creating a dynamic working environment. Twice a year the studios opens its doors for a four-day Open Studios Show where the public are invited to look around the studios and buy directly from the artists in their own studios. This has now become a successful event attracting more than 5,000 visitors each year.
