New York gallery owner David Zwirner is opening his first overseas outpost in London in October 2012. Led by director Angela Choon, the gallery will encompass 10,000 square feet, spread over the five floors of a Georgian townhouse in Mayfair. The gallery, who works closely with many museums throughout Europe represents a roster of artists, which includes Doug Wheeler, Marlene Dumas, Jason Rhoades and Neo Rauch. The substantial London gallery, with high ceilings and good natural light on the main exhibition floors, is a conversion of a townhouse which was once home to Lord Robert Cecil, the 3rd Marquess of Salisbury - twice the Prime Minister of Britain - and Helena Rubinstein who opened her first spa and beauty clinic here. New York architect Annabelle Selldorf, who has worked on all the Zwirner gallery spaces, redesigned the Mayfair gallery to provide clean, clear spaces that showcase the art while still maintaining the character of the building as seen in the grand entry staircase. Belgian artist Luc Tuymans, who has a longstanding relationship with the gallery, is the subject of the inaurual exhibition, his first show in London since his 2004 retrospective at Tate Modern.
