The 25 metre-tall, 35 metre-wide Gasholder No 8, disused since 2001, is one of the four gasholders King's Cross is to be rebuilt as a ?2.5 million pavilion and open-air performance space. Located south of Regent's Canal, the gasholder will be restored on the north of the waterway by Camley Street Natural Park, in the King's Cross Central redevelopment. Designed by architects Bell Phillips and Kimble, the space will be lit at night by wind-powered LED bulbs and the pavilion will host live music or club nights as well as meetings. Full design work starts in 2011.
