After hosting a series of 'pop up' shows over a number of years art curator Mila Askarova, who was born and raised in Azerbaijan, opened her first permanent gallery space in Dover Street, launching Gazelli Art House in March 2012. Having worked at Sotheby's and studied at Central Saint Martins and Christie's Education, Mila has much experience in the art market, both collecting and dealing, and has curated a number of exhibitions in Baku and Istanbul and in 2011 coordinated the Azerbaijani pavilion at the Venice Biennale. With Gazelli she aims to promote top contemporary artists exemplified by the gallery's inaugural exhibition, entitled Bodhi, which included works by artists such as Jaume Plensa, Olympia Scarry, Shan Hur and Khanlar Gasimov who recreates everyday objects covering them with organic materials such as food and human hair.
