Fine grade II listed stone bridge, opened in 1886, joining Fulham on the north side of the Thames to Putney on the south. Putney Bridge is famous as the start of the annual Varsity Boat Race. It also marks the finish of the annual Head of the River Race. Traffic congestion is a problem, especially over the weekend if Fulham FC are playing at home at nearby Craven Cottage. If you're waiting for a bus, or simply walking across, there are great views of the neighbouring Fulham Palace Gardens and Bishops Park on the north-west side of the river. The original bridge, which was finished in 1729, was demolished and replaced with the existing structure following a collision of a river barge. Interestingly, Putney Bridge is the only bridge in Britain to have a church at both ends: the ancient St Mary's Church in Putney and All Saints Church in Fulham, which featured in the film The Omen.Location map of Putney Bridge
