This East End gallery is the London presence of New York art dealer Kenny Schachter. The inaugural show in the Rove Gallery in Hoxton Square featured works by Melissa Brown, Brendan Cass, Misaki Kawai, Benjamin Butler and Richard Woods. His home is littered with works by artists he collects: Thomas Hirschhorn's huge wooden sculpture adorns the living room, Arik Levy's light sculpture hangs in the hall, and Richard Woods is responsible for the cartoon floor in the basement. Schachter also owns art by well-known names such as Keith Tyson and Carsten Höller and champions lesser known rising stars. Close to Jay Jopling's influential White Cube Hoxton Square gallery, Schachter's Rove Gallery is in the planning stages to become the first UK construction for architect Zaha Hadid - with whom Schachter has worked on various projects including the design of a hybrid Z.Car. He co-curated 'Reconstruction #3', an outdoor exhibition of contemporary art and design at Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire and has taught and lectured at Columbia University in New York and the University of Manchester.
