Located in the heart of the West End you’d expect it to be packed with the usual crowds but hidden in a basement below a sex shop it’s still to be uncovered by the masses. Nevertheless, that doesn’t stop it receiving rave review after rave review.
As you’d expect, the wine selection is a long one but, thanks to Kiwi proprietor Don Hutchison’s policy of stocking fine yet unusual wines from independent producers, it’s a pleasure rather than a chore to trawl through. There are excellent wines from all the typical categories complemented by many an out of the ordinary (and no less flavoursome) drop. Perhaps most curious of all – but a favourite among patrons - is a chilled sparkling Shiraz. If you’re a little baffled, there’s some helpful literature around to assist you in picking your bottle, but don’t be afraid to ask the staff; they’re friendly and helpful in equal measure.
Did I mention? The food is fantastic and good value too.
