Filthy McNasty's Whiskey Cafe (great name) appears, at first sight, to be an Irish bar with a sizeable selection of whiskies as well as Guinness (as you'd expect). But it also has a history of hosting some especially rock 'n' roll gigs as the photos of the Buzzcocks, Primal Scream and the Pogues on the walls attest. It's rumoured that Shane McGowan was once part-owner of the pub (he was certainly great mates with former owner Gerry O'Boyle) and Pete Doherty worked behind the bar. The pub gets packed out with a mix of unkempt youngsters, ageing barflies and weird and wandering individuals. It's pleasant enough inside with its photos of counter culture and music icons and a traffic light in one corner which looks like a set of particularly drunk students have dragged it in. The atmosphere in here is consistently loud and rowdy so expect it to be squashed, beer-drenched and plenty of fun. A lively, no-frills boozer. Filthy McNasty's images
