It’s teeny-tiny and, no, there aren’t enough seats, but the Jerusalem Tavern still provides a cosy nook to devour a rare breed of delicious ales. London’s only representative of East Anglia’s St Peter’s Brewery makes up in atmosphere and quality ale for what it lacks in size.
Stoop inside its mellow, terracotta innards to be greeted by the murmur of merry chin-wagging and chinking glasses. It’s easy to get a bit of privacy as all the seating areas are fairly self-contained in this charming, but cramped, muddle of wooden tables and narrow passages.
The cellar harbours a novel medley of St Peter’s Brewery ales which range from the nouveau organic ale to the archaic delights of King Cnut. There are plenty of fruity alternatives to maintain your interest and everything is served in bulbous, green bottles, fit only for magic potion.
Try to arrive early and bag a table. The Jerusalem Tavern’s jovial charm and tasty ales ensure its perpetual popularity. Small but perfectly formed.
