A short walk from the South Bank Centre, The Old Vic and The National Theatre this traditional old watering hole is a good place to have a pre-theatre pint. It was originally a funeral parlour but has been serving ale to locals for over a century. While much of the area gave way to high-rise blocks in the regeneration effort following World War II, Victorian terraced buildings like this that survived have now been given conservation status. It's a friendly old pub where local residents mix with office workers on their way to Waterloo Station during the week; on weekends there's more of a local crowd and a laid back atmosphere. For decor there's old pictures of what the area used to look like, stained glass and wood panelling, much as it would have been 100 years ago. Head towards the back and you'll find a conservatory with a large wooden table stretching down the middle; ideal for sharing a pint or two.King's Arms images
