Lowlander Beer Cafe

The reputation of the Benelux breweries precedes them and this themed bar captures the flair of Dutch cafe culture too.

The impressive row of shiny silver pumps spaced evenly along the bar would be enough to set any beer enthusiasts pulse racing. They’ve got 14 unusually appetising Belgian and Dutch ales on tap and twice that many in bottles stacked with intent behind the bar. The selection is extensive, comprising ales (Trappist, golden, amber etc) and beers (wheat, abbey, red etc), not to mention an excellent wine list. You’ll never get bored.

It’s split on two levels; upstairs is a dining area and downstairs has more of a European café ambience. Dark blue, sat on the corner in the middle of Covent Garden it’s not hard to find but getting a table might be – arrive early, or book, to avoid disappointment.

Even if the Lowlands are flat as a pancake, their beers certainly aren’t. Come Friday night after work the place is bustling and the invigorating, curious ales are a liquid refreshment.
