Lupo

A snug haven in the heart of Soho, Lupo, with its five bars, labyrinthine floor plan and outdoor terrace, has been a mainstay of the area's nightlife for more than a decade. Named after the Italian word for 'wolf', Lupo's a popular place for winter drinking, due to its dim lighting, open fire and candlelit enclaves - although customers often find the dark atmosphere a bit too much in the summer months. If you're lucky enough to bag a table on the terrace on the corner of Dean Street, this is a great spot to watch the world go by with a beer in hand. The wine and cocktail list is fairly extensive but the choice of beers hardly sets pulses racing while the selection of bar nibbles is a trifle bland (though inexpensive). A Happy Hour runs daily from 5pm-8pm ensuring Lupo is fairly rammed during the week after work hours, which is replicated during the weekend when, like most bars in the area, Lupo fills to bursting point. Due to table reservations, getting a seat can often be very hard, but Lupo's definitely worth a visit - providing you can get past the notoriously catty door staff. Warning: there's an inexplicable admission fee after 10-11pm every day and the bar's policy is strictly over 21 only.
