This West Hampstead stalwart has seen many other bars come and go in its time, whilst it steadily serves up some fine New and Old World wines by the glass and bottle.
Through the doors of the wooden front and you are met with an agreeably populated floor space, the distance between tables being such that leaning back to laugh uproariously doesn't mean inadvertently punching a fellow patron in the back of the head. A scattering of greenery and some African art adds to the laid-back atmosphere. This calming interior is matched by languorous but amiable service.
The wine list has a decent selection and there are some bargains (for the quality of wine) but don't go expecting too much change from a round. The back section of the bar is a small restaurant, popular with the locals. The menu is rather limited (but very tasty), leaving your attention firmly on the wine.
