This bar is all about location, location, location. Overlooking Trafalgar Square, the Rockwell bar within the Trafalgar St. James hotel is a lush affair from a bygone era. Walls are clad with exotic murals while ferns and large Longifolia Cabana trees create a tropical retreat. The bar area, designed by BradyWillams, opens up to banquettes upholstered in luxurious fabrics, looking like a return to 17th century London when exotic fauna and travelling menageries came to the city. Heading up the bar is Marco Ercolano, previously at The Rivoli Bar at The Ritz and Mr Fogg's, whose cocktails mix white port with Champagne and watermelon. Others put the focus on English sparkling wine while mocktails source ingredients from below the streets of Clapham, from Growing Underground. Select light bites from the bar menu and choose from marinated chicken skewers and ceviche tacos as well as Welsh lamb and brioche sliders. The Rockwell is bang on trend but for a close encounter with Nelson on his column it's hard to beat The Rooftop bar.
