Hotel bar on Trafalgar Square with public roof terrace.
This bar is all about location, location, location. Just a few steps from Nelson's Column, the Trafalgar Hotel features its own light, stylish bar with a unique roof terrace and garden overlooking Trafalgar Square, Westminster and beyond. Inside it’s all modern fixtures and materials. Glass and marble, leather and lacquered wood are stained stark black and white to give off a simple, classic feel to the surroundings. The hotel itself has been designed in such a way as to exclude any barriers and boundaries, meaning that the bar appears a flowing space with no obstacles to manoeuvre round or bump into. The result is a cool, calming enclave away from chaotic crowds outside. The cocktails here are first rate, while comfortable, plush banquettes arranged around sturdy tables make you feel extremely relaxed without causing you to gradually sink to the floor. The clientele is mainly suits, with the odd couple thrown in, but the excellent drinks and relaxed vibe make the Rockwell a rarity - a luxury cocktail lounge that feels comfortable. If the weather’s good take advantage of the roof terrace with its own bar, crisp white furniture, shady parasols and stunning views. If it’s not, make the most of the varied music and arts programme – from dance displays to DJs – that peppers most evenings. This is a classy retreat in the heart of the West End.
Best for:
Roof terrace with West End views, Trafalgar Square and tapas, cocktails and modern décor.
