Following on from the success of his first two gastropubs The Narrow in Wapping and The Devonshire in Chiswick, Gordon Ramsay continues to make in-roads into the beer-and-fine-dining market with this restored Victorian boozer in Maida Vale. While the first two of these gastropubs both earned a place in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide 2009, The Warrington failed to make the grade, deemed, "the least interesting of Ramsay's pubs." But that's not to say it's not worth a visit. The former hotel and brothel built in 1859 has been beautifully done up, retaining many of its original features including art nouveau stained glass, ornate plasterwork, cherubs and mirrors. Replacing the popular Ben's Thai Restaurant upstairs is the formal dining room, high ceiling-ed and in muted tones, where the menu includes soups and salads as well as starters. Gloucester Old Spot pork belly and mashed potato and devilled mackerel with horeradish potatoes are typical of the modern British fare put together by Mark Sergeant, formerly head chef at Ramsay's restaurant at Claridge's.
