10 Trinity Square hotel is due to open in 2014.One of the most iconic buildings in the City of London, 10 Trinity Square, is to be sympathetically transformed into a luxury hotel, due to open in 2012. The landmark building, originally the headquarters of the Port of London Authority, opened in 1922 to a design by well known architect Sir Edwin Cooper. Architects Woods Bagot have worked with English Heritage to preserve as much of the building's existing fabric as possible. Plans include the restoration of the glazed central rotunda which was bombed during the Second World War - the proposed new central glass canopy has earned it the nickname 'the whirlpool'. And an unsightly 1970s office block will be removed. Occupying a prominent location overlooking the Tower Of London and with views of the River Thames, the development of the hotel - which will also see the enhancement of Seething Lane Garden - is one of the most exciting building projects in the City.
