Just a few hundred yards from the Bank of England, Bonds has been an intrinsic part of the banker's lunching experience since it opened in 1992. The restaurant attached to the stylish Threadneedles Hotel is ably run by chef Barry Tonks who has worked at various Michelin-starred places - Chapter One, Putney Bridge - and earned his own while running the kitchen at McClements in Twickenham. At Bonds Tonks's French influenced menu includes tempting dishes like ravioli of native blue lobster, tuna tartar and steak tartare and that's just for starters. Meaty mains give options of slow cooked 'Baillet mountain' pork belly, Elwey Valley lamb and ox cheek in red wine sweet potato puree. The elegant setting perfectly sets off the rich food and the bar next door is well suited to the City types who work in this part of town.
