A great place to wander around and get lost, the Old Deer Park - which meanders from the edge of Richmond down to the Thames - is an urban green space and a symbol of great importance for Richmond, Kew and London as a whole. This riverside landscape between Richmond and Kew was once the setting for a host of royal palaces, while The King's Observatory - built by George III in 1769 - sits at the centre of the whole park and on the original Meridian Line. The Old Deer Park was once a private royal landscape but is now a metropolitan open space offering a diverse range of amateur sports - from archery to rugby and golf. Well served by public transport, this gloriously majestic riverside stretch of parkland forms the edge to the towns of Richmond and Kew. Ancient oaks, dry grassland, a riparian pond, ditches and woodland - all provide a series of important nature conservation areas and are a delight to behold. This is a great place to escape to and yet still have the attractions of Richmond at your fingertips. The Pagoda Room
