There are problems with this restaurant on the top level of the Globe Theatre: a terrible acoustic makes it horribly loud when full, and the decor can't decide if its quirky contemporary or Renaissance twee. What cannot be faulted is the kitchen, which performs some staggering feats of cookery based on simple British ingredients like crab, pigeon, belly pork and calves liver. Its rich, buttery stuff, accompanied by a wine list that would have made Falstaff very happy indeed. The views are also, of course, incredible (though you need to specify your table if you want one), so if it gets too noisy, you can simply eat in silence, watching rapt as the Thames drifts past this most extraordinary building.Swan at the Globe images
