Emma Reynolds and Kensuke Yamada, the pair behind the Tonkotsu noodle bars inSoho, Hackney, Notting Hill and Bankside, take a change of direction with Anzu. More formal than their noodle joints, the 60-cover restaurant in upmarket St James's Market combines elements of the traditional French brasserie with Japanese cuisine using only British ingredients. Evening Standard restaurant critic Fay Maschler is a fan of the king crab and pork gyoza. With Thomas Blythe, who spent 15 years at St John in Clerkenwell, as maitre d' you can be sure of a warm welcome.
